The Purpose of School Counseling is

to help students accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals.

School Counselors

School counselors wear a lot of hats in their schools.  They are leaders and collaborators.  School counselors believe that all students have the ability to learn and they demonstrate this by being dvocates for their students during their education.

All students have rights and school counsleors assist with making sure these are met for their students. Some rights of all students, according to the American School Counselors Association (2016), are:

  • The right to be respected and treated with dignity. School counselors will support all students from all populations and advocate for all of them.

  • School counselors work to improve the education outcomes for all of their students so that they get the support and information they need to improve themselves.

  • College, career and postsecondary options will be provided to them by school counselors as well as being able to understand how college and career readiness can impact their opportunities as well as their educational choices.

  • Students privacy will be respected to every extent possible by the school counselor.  Students will need to understand that this applies to their best interests, safety of others and themselves, and parental rights.  School counselors must also follow the law, ethical standards and any policies that relate to confidentiality and disclosure as it relates to the school environment.

  • Students also have the right to a safe environmet at school to be themselves and free from violence, bullying, abuse, etc.

My door is aways open for any student and all students will be treated with dignity and respect if they need me.  As a school counsleor I am always here to encourage all students to become their best self by helping them meet their academic, career and social/emotional needs.  I will also provide any support they or their family needs.
