Mission

The mission of the school counseling program is to provide all students with a comprehensive school counseling program that encourages each unique individual to reach their best in their academic, career, and personal/social development through participation within a positive learning environment. I collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, and the community to assure that all students will be productive, responsible, and confident citizens with a desire for lifelong learning in an ever-changing global society.

Philosophy

Counseling serves to help clients accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals. Whether in small groups or counseling individuals, my counseling will be active, involve learning and be directive. My approach to counseling is Reality Therapy where the focus is on the present and thinking and acting to initiate change. In this approach, you will be encouraged to think and possibly act differently to change current patterns of behavior to help solve problems. This will be done by determining the person’s wants and needs, direction and what is going on, evaluating the person’s current behavior to see if it is helping him/her accomplish counseling goals, and helping that person to plan and make a commitment to change.

Social Justice Statement

As a school counselor, I am an advocate for all students’ rights and educational opportunities. I am also a leader and social justice agent. Through the comprehensive school counseling program students will be able to recognize their own values and beliefs, appreciate individual differences, while developing an awareness of their interests and abilities. I will help students value their own diverse cultural realities and perspectives, I will work directly with school administration, teachers, and students to ensure all students are provided fair and equal access and opportunities for growth and success as a means to help overcome individual educational disparities.

Confidentiality

All information discussed during counseling sessions will be kept confidential. This applies to any notes, records, recordings, and discussions. There are a few exceptions to this confidentiality. I am mandated to report if I suspect that a client may harm him or herself or others. If at any time I suspect any type of abuse or neglect, I am required to report this to the appropriate individuals or agencies. Other information can only be released if I am given expressed written consent from the student.
